Hi Folks and Welcome to the Goldmoon Kennels Family!

This page is full of information that may help you to get ready to welcome your new pup Before you bring him/her home!

How Exciting!!!

*Your pup has been started in potty training

*Your pup has been exposed to everyday living noises inside and out &

introduced to new and fun stuff along the way as they grow!

Your pup has been started up on a grooming platform and brushed gently , had nails trimmed, ears clean gently, wiped down with puppy wipes

*Your pup will have seen my Vet prior to leaving & will have it's

1st Vaccine, dewormed, Neg fecal check, Nh State Health Certificate & will be Micro Chipped

(HC and Shot record in folder) and Deemed "Very Healthy" and is able to leave for his/her new Family.

** Your pup HAS NOT been leash trained or ever had a Harness and leash or collar on 

Please go slowly to introducing these to your pup. Keep and easy and fun! Reward!!

**Please Read up on the "Fear Periods" your pup will go through!

**Remember to introduce things slowly while giving your pup time to acclimate to his/her new surroundings

If you have other dogs /pets PLEASE be careful and introduce slowly and NEVER leave the puppy unsupervised with another dog. Always give the other dog time away from the pup so as not to feel so over whelmed..

 

**UNDISTURBED SLEEP IS VERY IMPORTANT!!**

Sleep Needs by Age

  • Newborn to 8 weeks: Up to 20 to 22 hours per day.

  • 8 to 12 weeks: 18 to 20 hours per day.
  • 3 to 6 months: 16 to 18 hours per day.
  • 6 to 12 months: 14 to 16 hours per day, slowly shifting toward normal adult sleep patterns. 

    Why Rest Matters

    • Puppies burn a lot of energy when they are awake.
    • Young dogs do not always know when to stop.
    • Too little rest can cause a puppy to become hyper, cranky, or harder to train.
    • Short, regular naps help stop bad behavior caused by being overtired. 

    *Food: **You have a feeding sheet in your folder** 

    (A couple days worth of food is sent in the care pack as well)

    Dry ~ Nutrena Large Breed Puppy Food (Tractor supply.. Runnings)

    Can ~ Purina One lamb & Rice puppy (Chewy)

    You should keep your pup on the same food he/she is used to eating for at least a month if you plan on switching

    new food should be introduced slowly mixed with other food over a 10 day period to avoid any digestive issues..

    **If you plan on switching to Raw or homemade cooked meals PLEASE do your Research!! 

     

    ** Keep your pup HOME when he/she first arrives!! for at least the first 3 weeks !

    As tempting as it may be:

    Do Not bring your pup out and about to friends family or pet stores ,dog parks etc! 

    This is stressful for your new pup and you risk exposing the pup to harmful things and this can result in a very sick puppy!

    Let them have time to acclimate to their new Surroundings and get into a routine ..

    Fear Periods : The "Fear" Periods your pup will go through are around 8-11 weeks old

    and 6-14 months old . they can last 2-3 weeks sometimes more

    always be patient gentle and kind through these periods..

    Crate Training: Positive crate training helps your dog see their crate as a safe and happy den. Build comfort slowly using food, games, and praise so your dog learns to relax inside without fear and stress.

    I start my puppies in a 42 inch wire crate.. water bowl attached to inside of crate

    (water should be available 24/7)

    you want the crate in a common area  ( you may need another in your bedroom)

    They have a bed and blankie , safe chew toys .

    The process should be slow and Positive and can take 1- 2 weeks if done correctly

    NEVER leave a puppy Screaming in a crate! That defeats the whole purpose. The crate should be a Safe Haven where the pup Wants to go in on its own and feel comfortable. Not Trapped!

    Do Not over use a crate..

    No puppy/dog  should EVER be left more then 2-4 hrs .

    Expect to get up once or twice at night o let the pup out when very young.

    NEVER Tie your puppy out on a Chain or rope etc!! 

    All outings should be supervised on a leash or long line while in your presence

    Unless you have a Safe fenced in area where the pup can run freely under supervision

     

    Training: Positive Reinforcement Training is always the best way! 

    Recommend : Flat buckle collar and Harness and flat 6 ft leash  (Harness & leash in Care Pack)

    *No Prong.. Chain or E collars 

    I use and Recommend Clicker training! (You will have a clicker in your Care Pack)

    *Micro chip Registry: You can register your micro chip for free online with this link

    *Vaccines: Your pup has had its 1st *Core* vaccine (DA2PP) (No Lepto!) at 8weeks of age

    2nd vac Due: 12 weeks of age (DA2PP) 

    **should deworm again also**   I Recommend 3-5 days of Panacur Granules (TS or Chewy)

    3rd Vac Due: 16 weeks of age (DA2PP)

    Rabies Vaccine no sooner than 5-6 mos of age

    Your pup will then need Nothing for a Year : DA2PP & Rabies Vac only

    Then repeat every *3* years

     

    *Colors and coats

    **I Do Not Guarantee Final Color or lentgh of coat when mature

    Certain colors go through many color changes

    Full coats can take 3-4 years

    German Shepherds come in a variety of colors and coat lengths

    Stock coat (short)

    Long coat (lentghs and thickness can vary)

     

    *How big will my puppy get??

    I Do Not Guarantee how big your pup will get when fully grown (2-4 years)

    I can give a general idea of an expected size based on past litters and parents size
